TW Cylinders receives air pollution control award

TW Cylinders LLC, a producer of high-pressure and acetylene cylinders and a division of Taylor-Wharton Intl. LLC, has been awarded the 2009 Air Pollution Control Achievement Award by the city of Huntsville, Ala.

The company replaced gas-fired preheat ovens, which had a 10 percent efficiency rating, with four induction units rated at 96 percent efficient, reducing monthly natural gas usage by 25 percent. This project has resulted in immediate reductions in energy costs, provided improved consistency in the quality of preheating, and reduced temperatures in the spinning area by 20 to 30 degrees F.
