Metal fines recovery system

January 27, 2011

Eriez® has designed the FineSort® Jr. metal recovery system, targeted toward recycling facilities in which operational space is at a premium. The compact design allows for recovery of 1-in. and smaller fines.

The system receives discarded fines material that has passed through an initial screening process and creates three material streams: a clean ferrous product stream, a clean nonferrous metals stream, and a waste stream.

The system features a 24-in.-dia. AIP pulley and a 60-in. Xtreme™ eddy current separator to create the clean fines streams. Ferrous materials are pulled out as they are conveyed within the AIP pulley’s magnetic field. The ferrous scrap is held to the belt until it reaches the underside, passes out of the magnetic field, and is separately discharged into a clean ferrous stream.

The second stage reclaims the nonferrous metal. The eddy current separator recovers fine nonferrous materials that a recycling center’s main eddy current separator would otherwise miss. The nonferrous material is propelled into a cross conveyor and then into collection bins. Light nonmetal materials fall out of the stream through a chute onto the user’s waste conveyor.
