Green laser technology

July 21, 2011

The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. offers green photonics laser technology for processing carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) for the manufacture of lightweight aeronautical and automobile parts. The technology can help reduce the use of costly raw materials and fuel.

The welding speed of GMAW can be doubled using the laser, the company reports, contributing to energy efficiency in production. The laser also can serve as an alternative to chemical engraving or sandblasting for structuring glass surfaces.

The technology can be used to weld glass tubes for higher-quality solar receivers, for increasing the energy efficiency of photovoltaic cells, and for lowering production costs for warm-water solar collectors.
