W2E Organic Power, Columbia, S.C., has announced plans to build a $12 million to $25 million anaerobic digestion facility in Baton Rouge, La.
The company harvests methane produced by heating pre- and postconsumer waste to 130 degrees and converts the gas into electricity. Leftover byproduct is turned into compost products for home and commercial uses.
Construction is expected to start in late 2012. When fully operational in 2013, the plant will process 24,000 metric tons of waste annually.
