Unisource Worldwide, Norcross, Ga., has announced that its transportation fleet has met the requirements to become part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) SmartWay® Transport Partnership. The partnership is the EPA's flagship program for improving fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution from the transportation supply chain.
Unisource, which has about 80 distribution facilities across North America and nearly 15 million sq. ft. of warehouse space, operates a fleet of more than 400 vehicles. In recent years the company implemented a proprietary transportation system, called Roadnet, to optimize delivery routing and improve fuel efficiency throughout its fleet.
In December 2012 Unisource Logistics Solutions, a division of Unisource Worldwide, earned the SmartWay Transport Partner logo, logistics category, for companies demonstrating superior environmental performance for freight operations. Unisource Logistics Solutions provides transportation services including inbound and outbound carrier services; supply chain analytics; and value-added services such as warehousing, fulfillment, and kitting and assembly.
