Battelle licenses renewable polyols to Emery OleoChemicals

July 20, 2011

Battelle, Columbus, Ohio, has licensed its polyols used for intermediates in making foams, coatings, and adhesives to Emery OleoChemicals LLC. Emery will be the exclusive producer of the soybean-derived products in North and South America and western Europe.

The technology allows polyols built from renewable resources to replace their counterparts that come from oil on a cost-competitive basis, according to the manufacturer. Polyols are multi-functional alcohols that are reactive oxygen-hydrogen compounds. They are used in industry for the production of polyurethanes and polyesters and also can be used as a starting point for high-performance ester lubricants.

Battelle is an independent R&D organization conducting $6.5 billion in global R&D annually through contract research, laboratory management, and technology commercialization.
