Mage modules powering N.J. rooftop system - Green Manufacturer

Mage Solar, Dublin, Ga., has announced that its high-efficiency Mage Powertec Plus modules are powering the 910-kW rooftop system at Philadelphia Sign Co.’s production facility in Pennsauken, N.J.

Almost 5,000 of the company’s 190/5 modules are mounted on 6,000 stainless steel, roof-mounted angle racks on the facility’s 225,000-sq.-ft. flat roof that underwent substantial upgrading before the installation. The GAF-insulated and reflective TPO roofing system now houses hundreds of arrays that will generate 1.1 million kWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the electricity needs for the entire signage-producing plant. Its corporate clients include Chase Bank, Bank of America, Hertz, and Target.

Because the company says all of its signs are manufactured from clean energy, the renewable departments of many of its customers are eligible to obtain credits when purchasing Philadelphia Sign Co. products.

“Recognizing the great potential of electricity created from solar energy and capitalizing on it as a company truly is a very profitable choice—from an environmental, financial, and also an investment standpoint,” said Joe Thomas, president and CEO of Mage Solar USA, who commends the company’s Going Green initiative. “We at Mage Solar congratulate Philadelphia Sign on their commitment to continuously setting new industry standards and embracing the great opportunities PV holds for businesses and the economy.”

Besides the energy savings the net-zero facility now enjoys, New Jersey’s Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (SRECs) expedite the return on investment the company can expect. The project also affected the economy positively because it provided employment to 65 workers, and Philadelphia Sign itself now is pricing and installing turnkey solar systems for commercial applications.

Mage Solar USA specializes in complete solar systems and provides photovoltaic modules, intelligent mounting systems, and brand inverters. It is a subsidiary of the international Mage Group.
