Roofing, cladding systems

July 13, 2011

Kalzip offers roof and cladding systems for ecofriendly structures. The systems can help users accumulate points in at least three of the six categories in LEED® New Construction, version 2.2: Sustainable Sites, Energy and Atmosphere, and Materials and Resources.

The use of the company's Nature Roof can reduce the impact of stormwater and help accumulate a point in Sustainable Sites Credit 6.1: Stormwater Design, Quantity Control. The vegetative roof can retain water and reduce runoff to decrease drainable needs and water storage requirements at the site.

The company's standing seam roofing and perforated facades also can help users gain points in SS Credit 7.1: Heat Island Effect, Nonroof, and SS Credit 7.2: Heat Island Effect: Roof. For example, the standing seam roofing can be supplied with a painted surface that achieves the required solar reflectance index (SRI) of 29, or in a natural stucco embossed finish, which has an SRI of 76 when new and 35 when weathered. To reduce the heat island effect in parking areas, the perforated facades can provide a wall covering that also offers natural ventilation.
