Biobased coating protects materials from corrosion

July 1, 2010

Cortec Corp. has added EcoLine® 3220, a 100 percent biobased, ready-to-use coating, to its line of biodegradable products made with renewable resources. The canola oil-based product produces a film that clings to metal surfaces and provides long-lasting vapor corrosion inhibition.

According to the company, the product is environmentally safe; has excellent thermostability; and has no effect on rubber, plastics, or paints. It is suitable for application in freezing temperatures.

The coating protects wire, sheet metal, pipe, flanges, gears, fabricated or machined parts, and ballast tanks made of carbon steel, aluminum and alloys, copper and alloys, cast iron, galvanized steel, and stainless steel. It can be applied by dipping, spraying, or brushing at many stages of metal fabrication or for storage and shipment.
